Warner University Launches Agricultural Studies Degree

In All Church of God, Colleges & Universities

Warner University is proud to announce the launch of a new agricultural studies degree program. President Greg Hall appointed a task force of agricultural industry professionals, board of trustees members, and university staff to explore the feasibility of offering an agriculture degree program at Warner.

Task Force members included Doris Gukich—Chair, Dawn Rafool, Dr. Jim Christoph, Judge Bobby Williams, Steve Maxwell—Highland Corporation, Tony DiMare—DiMare Fresh, Hill Griffin—Ben Hill Griffin, Inc. and Keith Mixon—SunnyRidge.

One of the first experts in the field the Task Force contacted was Commissioner of Agriculture, Adam Putnam, who encouraged Warner to move forward with an Ag degree program. He was interested in a program that would allow students to develop a solid foundation of knowledge and skills in the area of “General Ag” studies. Smaller class size, personalized attention and free tutoring often allow a student the opportunity to succeed at Warner who might otherwise struggle to survive in a class with hundreds of students at a large university.

David Byrd, the Ag resource specialist with the Polk County School Board, was instrumental in providing research information and assisted with the recruitment of the new director of agricultural studies program.

Jesse Jackson, superintendent of the Lake Wales Charter Schools, anticipates that the FFA (Future Farmers of America) program at Lake Wales High School will have a close working relationship with Warner’s Ag program and will be a feeder school for enrollment.

The 4-H and FFA clubs throughout Florida are prime targets for Warner University’s recruitment efforts.

The mission of Warner University to graduate individuals who exemplify academic excellence and Christian character, who are prepared to lead and committed to serve. Warner University is an Endorsed Agency of the Church of God (Anderson, Indiana).
