Succession Report: Committee Discusses Search for New General Director

In All Church of God, NAC: North American Convention

By Rebecca New-Edson

In September of 2011, responding to an announcement regarding Dr. Duncan’s impending retirement, the Ministries Council formed a Succession Committee to find a person capable and willing to serve as the future general director of Church of God Ministries. The persons who serve as the Succession Committee are Rev. Jennifer Akossi, Rev. Matt Anderson, Dr. Andrea Cook, Dr. Edward Foggs, Rev. Marty Grubbs, Rev. Alan Hutchinson, Rev. Charles Myricks, Ms. Carron Odokara, Rev. Jorge Palacios, and Rev. Rebecca New-Edson (chair).

We have also enlisted the aid of professional Christian consultants, who are assisting both in listening to the church and in helping us develop a profile of the characteristics needed for the new general director. Our goal is to continue this process of gathering information throughout the summer. We will conduct meetings with various groups over the next few weeks, seeking input from the church.

Our plan is to begin receiving résumés and recommendations from September 1 to November 1.Through research, interviews, and prayer, we hope to present a candidate to the Ministries Council in March 2013. We will then communicate the name and information to the General Assembly and present the general director candidate to the General Assembly for ratification in June of 2013. The new general director would take office on July 1, 2013, and Dr. Duncan would serve, at the desire of the new general director, as a consultant.

This is an open process. The Succession Committee and the Ministries Council have been praying for God’s will as we carefully work through this process. We must faithfully do the job God has called us to do so that the man or woman who will follow Dr. Duncan will be the person God has chosen to faithfully lead the Church of God into the future.

Will you pray with us? Pray:

•    For the Succession Committee, that we hear what God is saying and we faithfully respond.
•    For the consultants, that they will discern what the church is saying.
•    For the person God is preparing for this position.
•    For Dr. Duncan as he begins the transition and continues to seek how God wants to use him
•    Pray for yourselves, that God will prepare your hearts for the new general director.
•    Pray for the Church of God reformation movement, that we respond to God’s leading.
•    Pray for the Holy Spirit to bathe this whole process.
