Senior Adult Ministry at NAC

In All Church of God, NAC: North American Convention

By Joyce Livingston Lewis

So, you’ve been selected to start or revitalize the senior ministry in your church and you’re looking for ideas (and encouragement)! Well, look no further! You’ll find it all right here—Monday and Tuesday—on this very campus! Ask the Lord to open your heart and mind, grab your pen and note pad, and head over to the Fine Arts building for the ride of your life!

One great session is planned for you on Monday, June 25. We all know how special it is to become a grandparent, but how can we create closely bonded, godly relationships with those grandchildren that will last a lifetime? Join us for “Transitioning from Grandchild to Grandparent,” 1:00 to 2:30 PM, in room 170, led by Pastor Bob Confer.

Two more great sessions are planned for you on Tuesday, June 26. From 1:00 to 2:30 PM, join us for “How to Make Your Senior Ministry Exciting and Enticing.” Is your senior adult ministry about ready to fizzle out? Don’t let that happen. Your seniors are an extremely important part of your church; all they need is a little individual attention and a bucketful of love. Seniors, like everyone, want to feel important and valued, not like used figurines on a shelf, gathering dust because no one cares. Senior adults can be vibrant, excited, and like vast amounts of gold in an unmined shaft. All they need is a little polishing (complimenting), a little buffing (jobs for them to do), and a few sincere thank-you’s (reward). In this session led by Pastor Dale and Joyce Lewis (both passionate about senior ministry), you will learn how to create and maintain a creative ministry tailor-made for your seniors.

And then from 3:00 to 4:30 PM, there’s “Creating a Boomer Ministry in Your Church, in Fine Arts, room 170. Has your church recognized the need for a ministry for boomers or empty-nesters and you’re interested in starting one? Want to know what one church is doing to fill that need? Under the capable leadership of Bob Confer (a senior adult pastor), you’ll have the opportunity to exchange ideas and concerns for your own senior ministry with other leaders and laypeople who are experiencing the same situation in their churches. Come prepared to learn from others as you share your own senior ministry’s trials and tribulations, as well as joys and successes, and go home encouraged!

Nothing is more fulfilling than working with senior adults. God loves seniors and so should we!
