Prayer Moves God: Intercession Ministry at NAC Sees Results
By Joe Arena
E. M. Bounds, a great man of prayer in the nineteenth century, in his works on prayer said, “Prayer projects faith on God, and God on the world. Only God can move mountains, but faith and prayer move God.”
For the last sixteen years, the national prayer ministry of the Church of God has sponsored a prayer tent for the North American Convention (NAC). Many intercessors have given time to the Prayer Tent through the years. This year several pastors around the country also devoted time to the tent.
Truly, the hand of God has been moved at NAC 2012 by those who have interceded on behalf of others. Often individuals have returned, after being prayed for, to give thanks to what God has done through prayer. This year, for example, we’ve prayed for requests, either in person or by prayer cards left with us, for needs such as
• a young person addicted to drugs and prostitution,
• a man whose son is in a cult that shuns any relationship with parents,
• blessings on proprietor of local business,
• blessings on the newly commissioned missionaries,
• physical and spiritual healing, and
• guidance and renewal for pastors.
As a result of the Holy Spirit’s conviction during a song at Tuesday evening’s worship service, one gentlemen came into the tent Wednesday morning and surrendered his heart to Christ! In addition, many individuals were anointed and given prayer cloths for those dealing with serious illnesses. All of these requests provide a glimpse into the burdens that others are carrying. We who are intercessors will attest that this has been and always is a rewarding experience.
We’ve also interceded for speakers at our worship services, for those attending our worship services to be renewed in intimacy with the Lord, for the General Assembly, for a spiritual awakening and revival in the Church of God, for Church of God Ministries, and for next week’s International Youth Convention.
Our God is an awesome God and our hearts rejoice that he hears and answers prayer. We pray that the presence of our God will be with you all. Take comfort in the words of Numbers 6:24–26 (NIV): “The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.”
