LANCASTER — A pageant about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is a common staple of many church services on Easter Sunday, and Pleasant Chapel Church of God in Lancaster is no exception.

However, the church is going in a different direction this year with its interpretation of the Gospel, a move Pastor Steve Rauch describes as “putting a creative spin on a familiar story.”

On March 30 and 31, the church will present the musical “Godspell,” which is based on the Gospel of Matthew. The musical, written by Stephen Schwartz, debuted on Broadway in 1971.
