Opportunity: Visit the Shelter, See God’s Fingerprints Everywhere

On the east coast of India is the city of Cuttack, where the Church of God established an orphanage for girls in 1914. The girls came from a variety of backgrounds. Many sources tell harrowing tales of girls being physically removed from Hindu temples, where their futures were very uncertain. Christians literally saved the girls’ lives and gave them a future.

Today, that orphanage is called The Shelter, and it continues to be a haven for girls whose futures are not secure. This coming September, Andrew Lyon will be leading a trip to visit The Shelter for its one hundredth anniversary, with celebration featuring Indian diplomats, church leaders, and many others. You can join them to celebrate one hundred years of the Lord’s work in India.

Madison Park Church of God in Anderson, Indiana has partnered with The Shelter for more than twenty years through CBH, which has a Hindi and local Odia radio studio located on the grounds of The Shelter. Dozens of Madison Park members have visited The Shelter over the years, and many more have joined in prayer.

Several years ago, The Shelter was featured during Madison Park’s Night Lights sermon series focusing on Christians living in areas where religious freedom is restricted. The congregation prayed alongside The Shelter several years ago when God spared the facility and girls living there from a wave of violent persecution. Now we’re praising God for his protection.
