October is Pastor Appreciation Month
By Mark Richardson and Randy Montgomery
A pastor may represent many things to a congregation—leader, visionary, spiritual guide, shepherd, administrator, preacher, and teacher. Because of the significant role that pastors play in the life of the church, October is set aside as Pastor Appreciation Month. This is the perfect opportunity to honor the dedication, sacrifice, and service that are demonstrated in the ministry of your pastor. Whether you are a staff person serving alongside the senior pastor or a lay member of the congregation, we encourage you to plan to celebrate his or her leadership.

Please plan to celebrate this October as a special time for the congregation to come together to encourage and your pastor in meaningful and tangible ways. This may take the form of a month-long celebration of appreciation, a Sunday set aside for recognition, a getaway weekend for pastor and spouse, or other special gift from the congregation.

The apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, “The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching” (1 Tim 5:17 NIV). As you honor your pastor, you honor the Word that calls us all to Kingdom faithfulness. May God richly bless you as you bless your pastor and family!
