Pakistan

Crisis Overview


The Church of God in Pakistan has an ongoing ministry to villages among indentured agricultural workers living in extremely difficult conditions. Many of these families are Muslim, and thus the church has an incredible opportunity to minister to both the physical and spiritual needs of this community.

Disaster Response


Disaster Relief partnered with the Church of God in Pakistan to purchase and install four clean water pumps. These pumps, requested by local leadership in the villages, will help to mitigate the risk of water-borne illnesses that so often inflict both the children and adults in this community.

Crisis Overview


A terrible economic crash and resulting inflation is making it impossible for the people of Sri Lanka to purchase basic necessities (especially gas, petrol, and food.

Disaster Relief partnered with local leadership to organize and distribute basic assistance to each pastor’s family and their surrounding community (about 200 families total).

Uganda & Kenya

Crisis Overview


Severe drought is leading to widespread famine across large regions of Uganda and Kenya. Many Church of God families are reportedly living on one meal a day and suffering severe malnutrition.

Disaster Relief partnered with the women of the Church of God in Uganda and Kenya who together organized and distributed food relief and seeds for replanting to over 1,500 households, As result of this tangible love, several people gave their life to Jesus, including a government official who also donated land for the church to build upon.

Ukraine

Crisis Overview


The Russian invasion of Ukraine and horrific violence of the war has created significant needs both within and outside of Ukraine.

Disaster Response


1) Inside Ukraine: Through partnership with the Church of God in Germany, funds are sent to assist the ministry of a Church of God congregation in central Ukraine serving the community around them.

2) Funds are also sent to the Church of God in Hungary who purchases and transports basic provisions to the Ukraine border to assist a young Church of God Ukrainian couple in their ministry to internally displaced people. Funds have also been used to purchase a van to bolster this good work.

3) Funds are used to assist Ukrainian refugees in their evacuation and resettlement process throughout Europe. Additional funds will be needed to assist refugee care & resettlement outside Ukraine, as well as reconstruction and restoration efforts long-term in Ukraine.

Zimbabwe

Crisis Overview


Severe flooding destroyed the agricultural yields (both substance and livelihood) of several agricultural communities, as well as washed away some of the homes of Church of God families.

Disaster Response


Disaster Relief assistance was used by local Church of God leadership to purchase food, clothing, and emergency shelter for 123 families. Additional funds are needed to help families relocate, rebuild, and replant.

Malawi

Crisis Overview


Tropical Storm Ana, and multiple others that followed, created massive devastation in communities that were already vulnerable to the storms. Homes, roads, and other infrastructures, churches, sanitation systems, and agriculture were greatly damaged and destroyed.

Disaster Response


Disaster Relief assistance was sent for emergency relief purposes—emergency shelter for over 2,800 CHOG families whose homes were destroyed and emergency nutrition and sanitation to over 8,400 Church of God people in need. Additional funds will be needed to support the long-term reconstruction of over thirty Church of God buildings and restoration of agriculture and communities.

Crisis Overview


Typhoon Rai (Odette) devastated several islands in the Philippines. National leadership conducted needs assessments and let us know that hundreds of families and many congregations suffered great damage in the storm.

Disaster Relief partnered with local leadership to distribute emergency aid (food, water, clothing, temporary shelter, and other basic provisions) to over 250 Church of God families and 300 other individuals indicated as having greatly unmet needs. Additional funds are still needed to assist with the reconstruction of at least 10 Church of God congregations and communities.

Large tornadoes devastated communities in Kentucky just days before Christmas.

No Church of God congregations or members were directly impacted. However, Disaster Relief provided stipends to Church of God individuals and groups that chose to go and serve in these communities.

Haiti

Crisis Overview


A large earthquake in southern Haiti damaged homes, churches, and communities. At least two Church of God congregations were completely destroyed.

Disaster Response


Through needs-assessments conducted by local leadership, Disaster Relief is partnering with the Church of God in Haiti to rebuild two churches- First Church of God in Les Cayes and The Rock Church of God. First Church of God in Les Cayes hopes to be completed by July 2022 in order to host a convention with over thirty Church of God congregations churches in attendance.

Afghanistan

Crisis Overview


The Taliban’s violent takeover and oppressive rule in Afghanistan has forced many people to make the difficult decision to leave everything behind and flee as refugees. Though there is no official Church of God presence in Afghanistan, the Church of God in Pakistan is welcoming and receiving refugees crossing the border into their country. The Church of God in the United States also has the opportunity to welcome Afghans selected to come to the US.

Disaster Response


1) Pakistan: The Church of God in Pakistan organized and distributed food and relief to over 300 Afghan refugee families (many of whom are Christian). Their national leader, Rev. Samuel George, has also made trips to refugee camps in the country to assess needs and assist some families in resettling to Karachi, the capital city. The Church of God in Karachi is welcomes and shares Christ’s love in tangible ways with these families.

2) At least two Church of God congregations in the US are pursuing opportunities to sponsor an Afghan family and welcome them into their community.

Haiti

Crisis Overview


Following a military coup in early 2021, the people of Myanmar have been suffering under the brutal regime of the junta. Violence, COVID-19, and other sickness, as well as economic inflation, are some of the greatest challenges they face. Assistance is requested to help meet the basic needs of Church of God leaders and their families and communities.

Disaster Response


Basic stipends are sent monthly to support the 24 Church of God leaders and workers and their communities. These funds are most often used to purchase rice, cooking oil, medicine, and other basic provisions.
