What is it?

The IYC2022 Planning Team, which is composed largely of students, believes that we should live out our faith in such a way that we leave our host cities with a legacy, leaving it better for having been there. IMPACT San Antonio is all about giving back to our host city. So be sure to join us the morning of July 1 at 8:40 AM with your group as we rally together and go out to make an impact serving in San Antonio.

How will it work?

This year our Impact Day will look a little different. In response to the input we have received we have decided to put responsibility back into the hands of individual groups. We are providing a list of organizations who have said they would like to have volunteers, but do not feel limited to these. This might be a great opportunity to plug in a student leader to contact an organization or make general plans for the morning. Below is the list of organizations, churches, schools, and medical facilities that are partnering with us. Be sure to name drop IYC and Church of God Ministries when reaching out to schedule your projects as many organizations have reserved spots for us in preparation for your call. Also below you will see a few ideas that can be done in the city without much preparation.

For questions about Impact Day, please contact Tyler Williams at twilliams@chog.org

We want to make a difference in San Antonio! Think of what fifty or more students could do in two hours; we could get projects done that these places may have been trying to get done but have lacked the manpower. Please plan to be a part as we seek to impact the city of San Antonio! Thank you for your generous hearts and your willingness to serve.

  • Choose a place to serve (either from this list, the updated website information, or your own research).
  • Make contact with the volunteer coordinator or activity director to solidify your plans.
  • Arrange your own transportation and make sure necessary supplies are taken care of.
  • Two to three weeks prior to the convention re-confirm your plans.
  • Go and serve with love.

SAFB relies on volunteers to inspect, sort, shelve, and distribute donated food. They work with businesses, civic organizations and individuals to design a fun and rewarding volunteer experience. Whether one is available on weekdays, evenings, or weekends, one ensures a family can feed their child/children with a nutritious meal or a senior citizen receives a box of nutritious groceries. There are 3 options of serving: 1) at their warehouse sorting inventory, 2) with their culinary team to prepare meals, or 3) at Haven for Hope helping feed homeless in the community.
Register Here.

Misc: None of these work for your group? No worries! Here are some great options ad-hoc:

1) Feed the Homeless – Make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or buy pizza and pass it out around the city.
2) Soft Drink Giveaway – San Antonio is packed with thirsty people. Buy soft drinks and give them away.
3) Bottled Water Giveaway – San Antonio is hot during the summer and people are thirsty. Introduce them to Jesus with a bottle of water.
4) Grocery Bag Packing – Find a grocery store and ask the manager for permission to help people bag their groceries. Make sure you refuse any tips—to receive money would taint what we are trying to communicate.
5) Hand out free cookies, lifesavers, chewing gum, blowpops, etc. – Buy some type of packaged treats you can hand out to residents or tourists.
6) Business Window Washing – Requires the purchase of good equipment in order to do a decent job. Be sure to ask permission from the business first.
7) Pick-up trash – Cleaning up a yard, neighborhood, or city street can be a great witness.
8) Be Creative!
