History Channel Series About Jesus’ Life Features AU Professor
Dr. Kimberly Majeski, associate professor of biblical studies, was recently invited by Nutopia films to contribute as a New Testament scholar in Jesus: His Life. This eight-part series to be aired on History, beginning March 25 and concluding on April 15, will bring together some of the world’s top scholars, historians, and faith leaders from diverse perspectives to tell the story of Jesus in a new and enlightening way.
The series tells the life of Jesus in his relationships with eight prominent figures of the gospel stories. These figures include Joseph, John the Baptist, Mary mother of Jesus, Caiaphas, Judas Iscariot, Pontius Pilate, Mary Magdalene, and Peter. The series mixes actors in re-enactments, experts’ observations, the Gospels, and historical sources to create this complete portrait of Jesus as the man and the Messiah.
Majeski contributed greatly to the series with her research on the women of the Jesus Movement and early church. “I was thrilled to contribute to this project and talk about women who have been most prominent in my own studies,” said Majeski. Throughout her work in Jesus: His Life, Majeski has had the opportunity to provide a fresh perspective on the way she understands Jesus and those he impacted the most. “I believe examining Jesus through the lens of his human relationships is a powerful and informative undertaking that helps us know him more fully as a man who walked the sands of Palestine in the 1st century.”
Majeski recalls her AU experience and how it held a prominent role in her call to biblical scholarship: “My call came during my time at Anderson University School of Theology while an MDiv student attending the Newell Lectureship. I had the opportunity to interact with our speaker and Pauline scholar, Dr. James Dunn. His affirmation of my inquiry along with the encouragement of my then professors, Dr. Tim Dwyer and Dr. Gil Stafford, helped me understand this was the field where I would live out my call and service to the kingdom.”
Jesus: His Life will air weekly with two episodes back to back. The series starts at 8 PM on March 25 and will conclude April 15. Learn more about the series on History’s website.
