First, Be Worshipers

In All Church of God, NAC: North American Convention

By Leslie Parker Barnes

Join us on Wednesday, June 27, from 1:00 to 2:30, for “From a Worshiper’s Heart.” Using Bob Kauflin’s book Worship Matters as a guide, we will discuss the importance of taking care of our hearts.

Before we are musicians, before we are vocalists, before we are ministers of music, before we are soloists and members of the praise team, before we are dancers, directors and section leaders, before and beyond everything else we must first be worshipers. If we are not careful, we will spend more time doing and then struggle with hearing what God is calling us to be. This does not mean we can stand before people unprepared as long as our hearts are sincere towards God. He is looking at our hearts, which demands that we bring to him our best.

God is not impressed with our skills, talents or gifting; he gave them to us. Instead, the heart of God smiles when, from our hearts, we demonstrate the healing, forgiving, and keeping power of our loving Savior and invite others to experience the same for themselves.

In Matthew 22:37 we are given the first and greatest commandment: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. “From A Worshipers Heart” will encourage all of us to realize we cannot keep this great commandment if it is restricted to the sanctuary on Sunday mornings. However, as we gather to worship weekly, let our experience in the presence of God compel us to share his amazing love and to worship him in every facet of our lives.
