Oklahoma City, OK— Oklahoma Fifth District Congressman James Lankford will deliver the commencement address to 414 graduates of Mid-America Christian University (MACU.edu) Saturday, May 3, 2014.

Dr. John Fozard, university president, will preside over the occasion with musical guest Rev. Don Peslis performing special music during the ceremony. Peslis attended MACU when the school was located in Houston, Texas, and he is an associate pastor at Crossings.

University President John Fozard said, “MACU Commencement is always an exciting convergence of special moments for our community. In addition to celebrating the numerous achievements of our graduates, we are very happy to welcome our good friend Congressman Lankford as our speaker.”

Two honorary degrees will be presented during the ceremony: Mr. Ralph Palmer will receive The Doctorate of Humane Letters. Palmer has just completed 30 years of service on the university Board of Trustees.  Rev. Roy Dobbs, who will receive the Doctorate of Divinity, is a graduate of the university and has served as pastor of the First Church of God in Clinton, OK, since 1973.

“It is our distinct pleasure to recognize these two tremendous individuals during our service,” said Dr. Fozard. “Throughout their lives, these men have reflected the qualities, virtues, and characteristics we seek to cultivate in the lives of Mid-America students—knowledge, devotion, and service.”

Class valedictorian and salutatorian, as well as the recipients of other distinguished student honors will be announced during the exercises. The Honorable Anastasia Pittman, Oklahoma Representative for District 99 and the aforementioned Rev. Roy Dobbs will deliver the invocation and benediction, respectively.

Commencement Exercises begin at 10:00 a.m. and will be held in the main auditorium of Crossings Community Church, 14600 N. Portland Ave., in Oklahoma City. Both the university and the church are affiliated with the Church of God (Anderson, IN).
