CHOG UK National Convention 2015 Largest in History
By Zach Langford
The 2015 Church of God United Kingdom National Convention was held at Latimer Place, Buckinghamshire from May 22 to May 25. Every year members of Church of God Egan Rd., Birkenhead, and Community Church of God (London) gather together for a time of renewal, fellowship, and worship. The theme was “Partnership with Jesus in Ministry.” The main speaker was Rev. Benjamin Browne from Cayon Church of God in St. Kitts. With more than forty years of pastoral ministry experience, Rev. Browne was able to expound on this year’s theme with practical and spiritual application.
Attendees were able to participate in one of three workshops that were available—Partnership with Jesus in Worship; Partnership with Jesus in Witness; and Partnership with Jesus in Spiritual Warfare. Zach was asked to lead the workshop on worship, and he taught that worship goes beyond the songs we sing and extends into every aspect of our daily life. After the workshops everyone reconvened for a time of discussion and reflection on what had been taught.
“…present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” Romans 12:1 NRSV
A major highlight of the convention came during the final evening service. A group of youth and young adults from Community Church of God used their musical talents to lead worship through song and dance. During that worship time, a couple staying in the same building—but not affiliated with our group—were drawn by the music being played by the young band. That evening the couple came to know Jesus! Praise God!
This year marked the largest gathering in convention history for the Church of God UK, and we pray that it continues to grow. The event was a great success and many were positively impacted by the teaching and worship. There was a definitive movement of the Holy Spirit, and people were challenged and changed by it.
