CGM Welcomes Art Clawson as Director of Advancement
By Carl Stagner
Art Clawson is no stranger to the Church of God. His ministry has touched countless lives in Haiti, both as a missionary and later during the Church of God earthquake disaster response, reached into Africa through Global Missions, and spread across the campus of Warner University. Church of God Ministries (CGM) is honored to announce that Art Clawson has accepted the position of director of advancement. His broad experience, leadership skills, and love for the Lord and the Church of God make him an outstanding pick for a position vital to the ongoing ministry of the movement.
With accolades, honors, and life experiences some only dream about, Art Clawson’s warm smile and friendly personality may seem out of place. But this man’s grace and humility, borne out of the grace extended to him from above, radiates from deep within. “Having been raised in a non-Christian home, I never imagined I would even know God,” Art recounts. “At age eighteen, after accepting Jesus as my Savior, I learned I could ‘do all things through him who strengthens me’ (Phil 4:13 ESV). “Yet I still had no clue I would have so many amazing experiences. I am still learning that ‘God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us…’ (Eph 3:20–21 MSG). In each and every experience, I love to reflect on how God has moved and worked and stand in awe that I have been privileged to see him work in, though, and all around me in a variety of settings and through various means.”
Art Clawson will conclude his current employment at the University of Alabama at Birmingham by mid-February. With plans to join the CGM staff in early March, Art sees great opportunity for good to be accomplished. “My prayer throughout my career has been that God is honored in all I say and do,” he reflects. “I pray also that God uses us to advance his kingdom as we join hands to extend his reach. God has phenomenal work for the Church of God to accomplish in his kingdom. Each experience has taught me to expect and look for God to continue working. ‘Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us’ (Eph 3:20 ESV).”
Art Clawson graduated in 1978 from Warner Southern College (now Warner University) with a bachelor of arts in pastoral ministries. Since then, he’s earned advanced degrees in higher education administration and in two different intercultural fields of study.
Art and his wife Suetta make an excellent pair, and together they bless all who come in contact with them. For those who have not yet met Art, you’ll be delighted to discover his heart for ministry, as well has his sense of humor!
