AU Student Receives 2013 Nicholson Student Leader Award

Anderson University junior Alissa Cain recently received the 2013 Nicholson Student Servant Leadership Award for her servant leadership on campus and in the community. The award was made possible by funds directed to the university by Anderson University donors.

The award is named in honor of Dr. Robert A. Nicholson, president emeritus of Anderson University. Cain was selected by the Department of Student Life to receive this award because of her involvement in service activities. She will receive $750 and be able to designate a charity of her choice to receive an additional $250. Cain has chosen G.O. Ministries based in Louisville, Ky.

Cain is a nursing major from Greenwood, Ind., with a minor in Spanish. As a student at AU, she has participated in many service opportunities such as the Park Place After School Fun, Operation Foundation, Dove Harbor, and The Christian Center, to name a few. She has also served as a camp counselor, a resident assistant and was one of the founding members of BOUND, a student organization that raises awareness of human trafficking. She currently supports a campus initiative known as The Gap, a discipleship ministry she helped to create providing support to students dealing with everyday struggles. Cain has traveled to the Dominican Republic, Tanzania, Australia, and Greece. She attends Genesis Church in Noblesville, Ind., and Emmanuel Church of Greenwood in her hometown.
