AU Homecoming Weekend Scheduled for Oct. 25-26

Anderson University welcomes alumni, family, and friends back for fun and fellowship during Homecoming 2013, Oct. 25-26. Along with the annual homecoming football game and introduction of the homecoming king, queen, and court, there will also be opportunities to enjoy the Street Fair (rain or shine) that will again host Reunion Park, the Raven’s Nest Sundae, the return of a photo booth, and RavenFest.

“Each year at Homecoming we celebrate the vibrant community and rich traditions of Anderson University . . . and the legacy left by the generations before us,” said Elyse Cromer, associate director of alumni and parent programming. “We love being able to witness fun and heartwarming reunions every year, and this year there are so many ways for friends and classmates to connect during Homecoming weekend.”

Returning this year will be the Homecoming Banquet on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 5:30 p.m. The banquet is a time to connect with friends and classmates and hear campus updates from President Dr. James L. Edwards. Everyone is invited to come celebrate the alumni awards honorees, Athletic Hall of Fame inductees, and class reunions for 2003 (10th), 1988 (25th), 1973 (40th) and 1963 (50th). Registration is open online.

“Last year we brought back the Alumni Banquet for the first time in decades, and this year we plan to make it even better,” said Ben Davis, director of alumni relations. “As always we will be honoring a stellar lineup of alumni with awards and Athletic Hall of Fame honors. With a homestyle meal and the class reunions incorporated into the dinner, it will be an event not to be missed!”

On Friday, Oct. 25, the Campus Illumination will light the Valley and the family-friendly Reception at Helios. Various AU coaches will be available to talk about the season and answer questions. Alumni and friends are invited to Alleluia, a concert in Reardon Auditorium on Friday at 7:30 p.m. featuring Bill and Gloria Gaither. The Men’s Soccer 25th Anniversary Reception will be held in the Kardatzke Wellness Center on Friday at 7 p.m.

To celebrate their 40th anniversary Center for Public Service will have a tent at the Homecoming fair and Dr. Doug Nelson, who ran CPS for thirty-two years, will be at the festivities.

Alumni interested in the Homecoming 5K Run and 2 Mile Walk on Saturday at 8 a.m. can register online. The Women’s Soccer team plays Earlham at 1 p.m., Men’s Football plays Hanover College at 1:30 p.m., and AU Men’s Soccer vs. Earlham kicks off at 3:30 p.m.

Camarada will be offering a service project at a local food bank on Friday. Meet fellow members at 4 p.m. in the Fine Arts Breezeway. On Saturday, Camarada will host their annual alumni breakfast at 9 a.m. along with club members and alumni from the men’s service club, Dativus. At 9 a.m. in the Olt Student Center, Alacritas and Boosters will host separate alumni breakfasts. The L’Amifidel Alumni Cookout will be held in Decker Commons Courtyard on Friday at 7 p.m.

Various open houses and tours will be available on Saturday. At the Kardatzke Wellness Center, the Locker Room Legacy Project will be open from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for tours. The Falls School of Business will host an open house on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. for the Star Trading Room with a presentation from the AU Raven Fund’s Investment Performance at 10 a.m.

Also returning this year will be the Live Homecoming Webcast from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. during the Street Fair.

“We’re proud of the fact that all year round, we are helping our grads ‘Stay Connected For Good’ to AU and to other alumni,” said Davis. “With networking events and AU-themed activities in more than 20 locations in the last year alone, we are truly going to where are alumni are. But, for Homecoming weekend, there’s nothing better than having thousands of our alumni descend on the campus – some of whom are here almost every year for Homecoming traditions, as well as those who haven’t been back to AU for many years.”
