Small-Group Study for 2013 Focus 40

Warner Press, Inc., is publishing an elective study titled Extreme Love for small groups to use during the Focus 40 emphasis in 2013. This book highlights the extreme love that God demonstrated in the atonement of Jesus Christ, as well as the extreme love embodied in the Great Commandments. Copies will ship in January for the forty-day prayer emphasis, February 20–March 31.

Hundreds of congregations have participated in previous years’ Focus 40 observances. These forty days of prayer and fasting prior to Easter unite Church of God congregations in spiritual discipline and recommitment to Christ.

Next year’s Focus 40 theme of “Extreme Love” points to the Great Commandments that Jesus summarized in Matthew 23:36–40: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” (NIV).

The Extreme Love book is designed to guide small prayer groups during the Focus 40 emphasis. It includes daily Bible readings and inspirational articles, as well as a forty-day calendar of group discussion.
