50th Anniversary for AU’s Candles and Carols, Dec. 5
The Anderson University School of Music, Theatre, and Dance will present the annual “Candles and Carols” Christmas concert on Friday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in Reardon Auditorium on the campus of Anderson University. Celebrating the 50th performance, the annual “Candles and Carols” Christmas program revives many memories for those who attend each year. Feelings of togetherness, the excitement of singing traditional Christmas hymns with thousands of friends, and hearing the familiar strains of “Silent Night” echoing through the auditorium in the glow of the candlelight encourage audience members to return to Candles and Carols each year.
“Candles and Carols is a grand Anderson University tradition,” said Dr. James L. Edwards, president of Anderson University. “This year we will celebrate our 50th gathering with the best of music and artistic pageantry. We hope you will join us in Reardon Auditorium for this wonderful evening of celebration.”
“All of us involved with this concert are honored that we can continue this wonderful tradition,” said Dr. Jeffrey E. Wright, dean of the Anderson University School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. “In honor of this 50th anniversary, we are reaching back into our past and using pieces from previous years along with the very best from recent compositions that celebrate the Christmas season. We think the program will be a wonderful blend of the past and the present. We hope the community will attend and celebrate this significant milestone with us.”
More than 250 AU students from the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance will participate during the service, including the Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Susan Taylor; the Orchestra, directed by Gert Kumi; the Chorale, directed by Dr. Richard Sowers; the Women’s Chorus, directed by Dr. Joani Brandon; and the Dance Ensemble, choreographer, Shauna Steele.
The audience will have the opportunity to participate in the program through congregational singing and the candle lighting ceremony at the conclusion of the evening. View a campus map online for directions to Reardon Auditorium.
